Match the Allegan record to the court and stage

The 57th District Court Criminal Division handles misdemeanor prosecutions through sentencing and felony proceedings through the preliminary examination. The 48th Circuit Court Records Division preserves that court’s criminal files and supplies record copies. Start with the court named on the document you already have.

Record you are tracing Useful starting point
Misdemeanor case and sentence 57th District Court, which processes these cases from arraignment through sentencing.
Felony arraignment or preliminary examination 57th District Court for its stage of the proceeding.
Criminal filing in a 48th Circuit case Circuit Court Records Division; include the Circuit case reference.

Keep any District and Circuit numbers separately. When following a case between courts, compare the defendant and incident identifiers before treating the entries as stages of the same prosecution.

Check the classification before calling a record criminal

Traffic civil infraction

The Traffic Division distinguishes noncriminal civil infractions from misdemeanor violations. A ticket appearing in a court search does not by itself establish a criminal prosecution.

Charge, decision and sentence

Use the charge record to identify the accusation and the disposition or judgment to establish the recorded outcome. An early felony hearing is not evidence of a later conviction.

Ask for a specific Allegan filing

  • ✓
Give the court a usable reference

Provide its case number when known, defendant name, approximate year and document sought. If you have only early District paperwork, explain that rather than guessing a Circuit number.

  • ✓
    Contact the correct record office

For a District file, the 57th District Court page lists [email protected]. For a Circuit file, use the Circuit Records Division linked above. Ask the office to confirm whether it holds the requested item.

  • ✓
Agree on copy format and cost

State whether you need inspection, an ordinary copy or certification for a recipient. Request the current charge, payment instructions and delivery options from that court before sending payment. Fees for vital records or another court do not establish this order’s price.
